When someone has good character they tend to do the right thing.  I believe that his quote means you are wise if you do the right thing. An example of this quote is when you witness someone steal. If you tell the police about it, you are wise. You are standing up and doing what is right. When you do what is right, you get rewarded. Another example of this quote is when someone cheats. If you don't tell on them, you are choosing the wrong. You know what they did is wrong yet you don't step up and do the right thing. Always do the right thing, no matter when or at what time. Because in the future it will be easier for you and people around you . What I mean by popular is that if you want to go do all the things that are wrong like drinking, smoking, or maybe the way you dress. Like if you want to do all that then go ahead but it wont keep your friends for that long. When your doing something right you will notice it right away. Don't drink or smoke just so that you can fit in go with other people that don't do all that just to please people. Albert Einstein was a very smart man and when he did this quote he knew people will understand and will question weather to do right or to become popular. For example when someone offers you a drink just be polite and decline and leave if you want.
