This quote is saying that Henry Thoreau, the best investment you can do for yourself is goodness. If your doing good than you wouldn’t have to be worrying about anything else. If you ever do, you would have to be feeling sorry for yourself or being self conscious about doing something good. Investing all your time in doing something good for your benefit is the best investment you can do for yourself. Not only because it will never fail but you’ll never regret doing it. Also by doing good, none of your privileges get taken away. Which gives you freedom and you would have to be wasting your time fixing all the bad things you did. Even if you do something bad you shouldn't feel bad just make it up or fix it. It will take time but its better than not doing something.
